Christopher Campbell, Director of Bands

Mr. Campbell is in his first year as Director of Bands at Archbishop Curley High School. For the last 17 years, Mr. Campbell has served as Director of Bands of Howard High School in Ellicott City, Maryland. At Howard, Mr. Campbell directed the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Percussion Ensembles, Jazz Ensemble, and Steel Drum Ensembles. Under his direction, the Howard ensembles received consistent superior and gold ratings at local, state, and regional festivals. Before his appointment to Howard High School, Mr. Campbell was the Instrumental Music teacher at Bollman Bridge Elementary School and Assistant Band Director at Westminster High School. At Westminster High School, Mr. Campbell helped lead the “Owl” Marching Band to consecutive State Marching Band Championships as well consecutive runner-up awards at the Tournament of Bands, Atlantic Coast Championships in Scranton, Pennsylvania. In addition, Mr. Campbell led the Westminster Jazz Ensemble to top ratings at the International Association of Jazz Educators Festival.

Mr. Campbell received a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. In addition, Mr. Campbell pursued additional graduate studies from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. At Peabody, Mr. Campbell studied wind conducting and music education with Dr. Harlan Parker. Over the last several years, Mr. Campbell has been active adjudicating and guest conducting band ensembles from all over the region. Over the last several years, Mr. Campbell has served as an adjudicator and guest conductor for the Washington Archdiocesan Music Teachers Council.

Throughout the last 28 years, Mr. Campbell has been active in the marching arts. As a member of the 1994 and 1995 Cadets of Bergen County, Mr. Campbell acquired many of the important traits needed to be a successful band director. Mr. Campbell was a member of the 1997 Carolina Crown brass staff and the 2000 Cadets visual staff.
